Aurora is more than the city David E. Smith Jr. calls home. It is the community where he has spent more than two decades building relationships, serving young people and families, supporting local
organizations, and helping people work together.
Long before becoming a candidate, David was already showing up.
"Service Was the Starting Point"
David learned the importance of service by watching his parents volunteer and support others. That example became part of how he lives: offering his time, helping people find resources, supporting community efforts, and encouraging others to succeed.
His work has connected him with residents across Aurora—from young people and families to educators, neighborhood leaders, businesses, nonprofits, faith communities, and public officials.
David does not view service as something performed for attention. It is a responsibility and a natural part of who he is.
Why I’m Running
I’m running because I believe Aurora works best when we work together.
Too often, public conversations can become “us against them.” I want to help move our city toward greater collaboration—across neighborhoods, organizations, generations, and viewpoints.
I have spent years serving Aurora without a title. As Alderman At-Large, I would have the opportunity to bring those relationships, experiences, and community perspectives into City Hall while representing the entire city.
I’m not running because I believe I have every answer. I’m running because I know the importance of showing up, listening carefully, asking good questions, and bringing people together to move Aurora
forward.
